Lindsey Hunter Mortgage Fraud Scandal

August 29, 2008 by admin

Ralph R. Roberts is not new to chasing down those who try to fraud decent people out of money via mortgage scams.  (He’s even written “Protect Yourself from Real Estate and Mortgage Fraud: Preserving the American Dream of Homeownership” available here.)  He’s now investigated mortgage fraud allegations that involved Lindsey Hunter, a basketball player for the Detroit Pistons.

It seems that Mr. Roberts was alerted to a man named Bruce McClellan’s case about being defrauded by Lindsey Hunter’s company.  Lindsey Hunter and company allegedly made false claims and may have committed mortgage fraud.

Mr. Hunter denies involvement. More can be found here

This story is making big news for a few reasons. First of all, it’s tied to a big name basketball star.  Secondly, there are many people in a mortgage crisis these days who don’t know how to get out of it.  Hearing word that there are people out there we can blame for some of these problems tends to get steam coming out of people’s ears.  Last of all, it has to do with house flipping.

We’ve all seen house flipping shows, and since you’re on this site, the chances are good that you’re into house flipping yourself.  The media attention has swirled around this case, and house flipping sure doesn’t come out smelling like roses.

If true, Lindsey Hunter’s actions certainly aren’t excusable.  So, how can you avoid this yourself?  You need to make sure you always deal with companies who are reputable.  Protecting yourself is the first step to becoming a successful house flipper.

This Lindsey Hunter mortgage scandal is possibly just the beginning of the press and authorities coming down on those who are ripping people off and giving a bad name to the real estate industry.  Hopefully, the people who are giving house flipping a bad name will all get caught so those who want to flip ethically can profit in peace.

It’s a shame that people are getting taken advantage of in this way…it’s an even bigger shame if this basketball player is involved :(
